A BMW driver fled the scene of two accidents on Hansaring on Friday evening. The police have arrested the suspected drunk driver.
According to investigations so far, the BMW driver hit a car under the underpass on Hansaring in the direction of Albersloher Weg on Friday evening (7 June, around 7 p.m.). The two occupants were injured. The driver of the accident drove on without giving his personal details and is suspected of having hit a Vespa in front of the traffic lights. The BMW driver then fled further along Hansaring in the direction of Wolbecker Straße.
The BMW was badly damaged after the accident and lost vehicle parts during the escape. The 41-year-old German driver parked the damaged vehicle on Manfred-von-Richthofen-Straße and fled on foot with his 38-year-old companion. Police officers called to the scene managed to track the vehicle thanks to numerous witnesses. The officers caught the two fugitives.
A voluntary alcohol test on the driver showed a blood alcohol level of 2.46 per mille. He now faces extensive criminal proceedings. The investigation is ongoing.
