Münster/Nottuln. A Mercedes left the road on Sunday morning (9.6., around 9:30 a.m.). A 41-year-old man died at the scene of the accident. A 34-year-old woman and another 41-year-old man were seriously injured.
Investigations into the course of the accident have so far revealed that the three people were traveling towards Wuppertal on the A 43. For reasons as yet unclear, the Mercedes veered off the road to the right near Nottuln. The vehicle went off the road into a ditch and is said to have skidded up again and landed in an adjacent field. The two men were thrown out of the vehicle and the woman was trapped in the Mercedes.
It was too late to help one of the men. He died at the scene of the accident. Several courageous road users provided first aid to those involved in the accident and looked after them until the emergency services arrived. They took the seriously injured to hospital. The first responders are being looked after.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. An accident investigation team is being deployed to reconstruct the exact course of the accident. Initially, there were indications that there may have been other people in the vehicle. A helicopter was deployed for the search. Police officers also searched the adjacent field. The suspicion has not yet been confirmed.
The road in the direction of Wuppertal had to remain closed until 1:30 p.m.
