Unknown fraudsters scammed a 68-year-old man from Münster on Theo-Breider-Weg out of his coin collection with a shock call on Friday (May 31, 11 a.m.).
According to the victim, he received a call from a man claiming to be a police officer around mid-morning. The caller reported a robbery of an elderly lady and claimed to have found a piece of paper with the personal details of other possible victims - including the name and registration address of the injured party. It was also known that the victim had a valuable coin collection. He was supposed to hand this over to the alleged police officer to protect himself. Under the impression of the shock call, the man from Münster followed the caller's instructions and deposited his coin collection in a bush on Theo-Breider-Weg. Later, what had happened seemed suspicious to him and the 68-year-old informed the police.
The police are asking possible witnesses to call (0251) 275-0 and advise: "Always be suspicious if you receive calls from unknown numbers! The police will never ask you to hand over valuables to an alleged police officer. If in doubt, always dial the emergency number 110!
