The mobile police video surveillance systems installed at the main railway station will be used at the venues in NRW during the European Football Championship. The State Office for Central Police Services (LZPD NRW) has commissioned the Münster police to make the systems available for this outstanding police operation from the end of May. On 29 May, the equipment at the main station will be switched off and made ready for the tasks at the European Championships.
"We understand the state's decision," said Police President Alexandra Dorndorf. "The European Football Championship with four venues in North Rhine-Westphalia is an outstanding, security-relevant event for which we also have to pool our resources in terms of technical and organizational matters." Nevertheless, security in the city of Münster remains guaranteed. "We will continue to keep a close eye on the area around the station with uniformed and civilian forces during the European Championships," explained Dorndorf. The police intervention teams introduced with the video surveillance will also continue to be deployed in this area.
"We want to ensure that the systems are reinstalled here as soon as possible after the European Championships," confirmed Dorndorf. "The first recognizable successes of the video surveillance were already measurable. For a serious evaluation of the effect, the monitoring must be continued." The European Football Championship ends in mid-July.
